Prelude Interview with Thomas Adès and Hosted by Inon Barnatan
6 PM in The JAI
Fantasy and legend abound in the first of our intermission-free Wednesday concerts highlighting and illuminating the cornerstones of the chamber music repertoire. Schumann’s immensely popular and fanciful piano quintet and fantasy-pieces bookend Janáček’s quirky miniature piano concerto, based on imaginary animal encounters, as well as the U.S. premiere of fairy-tale pieces for violin and piano by our season’s composer-in-residence, Thomas Adès—one of the most important and celebrated composers, pianists, and conductors today (and our music director’s favorite living composer!).
After each Wednesday concert, ticketholders over 21 are invited for a toast to celebrate our 37th SummerFest! Valid I.D. required.
